Company History


In the year 1969 the business White’s Real Estate started because my parents, Bing & Veronica White, wanted to be in business for themselves. They found a small office opposite Ogilvie High School and White’s Real Estate was established.

Dad spent his week-ends fitting out the office and Mum helped out by varnishing partitions and doors to the separate offices. As office space was very small, with not much room for desks, Dad got to work building very small office desks to fit the space.

The next step was to get some office equipment so Dad had to get a house to list and sell in order to buy the type writer and other office equipment as well as sign writing on the fascia.

Just at this time they found out that a huge shopping centre (for it’s time) was going to be building on the corner of Risdon Road and Swanston Street (The Kmart). The people who lived in the houses that occupied the land had to buy new homes to live in and Dad and Mum had the closest real estate office to the huge development at the time, they sold homes to those that needed them.

Because the office was small, the clients had to sit in their cars to wait for service.

Dad took the car to work, Mum and I had to walk. I was in kindergarten at the time, no crèche in those days, so I was the kid in the corner with the toys at the office until kindergarten became full time for me.

Things were going well so Dad put on a sales person to help with the work load but had to go out at night to collect rent from the tenants who had gotten behind with their rent payments. The trouble with this was that the office was not big enough for three people so Dad and Mum had to expand.

The ANZ Bank had decided to move their Moonah Branch so the site 116 Main Road, Moonah came on the market. (I remember Dad showing me the latest in electronic adding machines!) Dad and Mum bought the building to make it into a real estate office which worked well having room for 2 sales people, Dad, Mum and a receptionist. Things were going well so they decided to move the rental department upstairs at the same location. They bought an Adler rent machine to add up the rents collected for the Landlords – this worked by putting an A4 piece of cardboard manually in the top of the rent machine, separately filed for the next month.

In 1983 the Transport Department decided to move the bus shed to the corner of Springfield Avenue and Main Road, Moonah. This made the site 15 – 23 Main Road, Moonah (Lamrock Place) available. There was a new up and coming sport called “Indoor Cricket” so Dad and Mum developed an Indoor Cricket Stadium. This was when the office was moved to its present location at 21 Main Road, Moonah which coincided with Dad and Mum joining the Professionals Real Estate group.

While the office has been at it’s current location, my sister, Charmaine, who was working in dental therapy decided to join the family business and started her real estate career as a sales person.

In 1987 the business expanded and another office was opened in Hobart.

In 1990, Mum and Dad’s first son, our brother, died suddenly at the age of 28. Six months later Dad passed away in an accident.

In 1991 the Hobart office was closed and it was decided to concentrate our efforts on the Moonah office which proved successful as to this day we’ve been in business for 39 years!!

Charmaine and Mum kept the business going until Mum retired and then Charmaine became Managing Director. With Charmaine at the helm we had many prosperous years.

I had my own plumbing business that I moved on from after a successful 11 years, I then joined forces with Charmaine in the family real estate business.

Starting as a sales consultant, I enjoyed the people contact for over two years and then moved on to Management, Property Management where I enjoyed dealing with the owners and tenants and building friendships with them for over ten years.

After Charmaine’s successful time in the business, she decided to follow her dream and go to Griffith University to earn her Dentists’ degree so I have been handed the reigns with a fantastic team of professionals around me.

My position now is General Manager of the Sales Team and Rental Teams.
